To support the uptake of communication expertise in alternative career paths outside of or adjacent to the traditional tenure-track academic position (knowledge shared in part with the #AltAC Twitter hashtag), this panel discussion session will overview the highlights of the NCA "Advancing the Discipline" virtual workshop series, "#AltAC in COM: Exploring Career Options Beyond the Academy for Communication PhDs," hosted by The Transformation Project of Arizona State University in April 2021. This panel discussion provides #AltAc career advice and best practices from industry professionals in corporate, research, administrative, health, and consulting fields who hold communication PhDs. The discussion panel is aimed toward a range of NCA members but is especially apropos for doctoral students and members who want to cultivate opportunities for careers outside of or adjacent to typical professorial roles.
