On June 15 2017, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed HB3859, a piece of legislation allowing child welfare agencies receiving taxpayer money to claim religious objections to certain groups of people, effectively giving them a license to deny adoption and fostering opportunities to LGBTQ, single or non-Christian parents. As part of NCA's commitment to engaging with the local politics of our host city, this panel brings together NCA scholars and local activists and community leaders from a variety of backgrounds to discuss the implications of this law.
